Quite by chance I came across this brilliant little video on Youtube. It shows an electric Bing Table Top set working on original track and with the original controller. It gets off to a slow start as the soundtrack sets the scene, but is is very much worth waiting for.
For those not familiar with this line, the motors were run on AC power, so were not reversible at the controller. Reversing was by means of a rotating barrel contact, hand operated by a small lever under the cab. They could also be operated at the trackside. The engine shed had a catch to move the lever: stay watching this to see the engine reversed into the shed at full speed, have the reversing switch tripped, and come charging out again. This is a man who likes his trains to run., and what is so fascinating here is that everything looks to be original.
