How many of us in the UK will have ever seen this Trainorama?

Well you should have an opportunity next year as our Chairman, Bryan Pentland, is planning to include it in one of his displays at a TCS event on 2017.

Brian explains more about this accessory set: This wonderful 3D cardboard background set (sold for S gauge but works with O) can be used on a multitude of different layouts and was made only in 1953. It has an overall length of 9-foot depicting the hills of New England, generic mountains, and rolling green hills of the Southern USA. It is designed to run along around the long side side of a train layout with two closing ends. The art work is very suitable for a background being in soft focus colours. The Trainorama sets could be purchased separately or came with several American Flyer train sets. The set cost $9.95 in 1953.

It is made of five cardboard sections that can be assembled with other components in several ways for variety. Some of the buildings and forests extend out from the flat background to give it a more realistic and interesting three-dimensional appeal. The set in the photos was set up for the first time for this presentation and after so long the cardboard has lost its elasticity so the sections with their slots and tabs are rather fragile.
