I am pleased to say David Holt has answered the call, and is the first member to submit some news to our website. David is well known to visitors to our exhibitions, often showing rare and unusual early OO items on a layout of the period. He is also a regular contributor of well researched articles to our quarterly magazine, the Train Collector.

Here is what he says:

Minories David Holt Minories

For a long time I have wanted to construct a portable end to end layout and this is at last starting to take shape. It will be based on the famous “Minories” design first proposed by Railway Modeller editor Cyril Freezer during the 1950’s and will, as far as possible, be constructed from materials available during that period.

A first step towards this has been the acquisition of suitable track and point work. With much encouragement and help from Paul Williams I have acquired via Ebay a quantity of Wrenn fibre based universal points. I have also received invaluable help from Geoffrey Robinson in restoring these to working order. Together with some lengths of Wrenn track these will form the basis of the layout.

Some planning and measuring has begun prior to baseboard construction, as shown in the accompanying photos.

I have no doubt this project will be challenging if it is to stay faithful to the period. Hopefully David will keep us up to date as it develops.
